Study Group Meeting Info:

CSI: 9 to 11:30 am at the Summit Lab, 2530 Arnold Dr., Martinez, CA 94553 - speaker Christina Henry from the Santa Clara County Crime Lab will be presenting "Fire Scenes for CSIs" and CSI - speaker Terrence Wong from the CoCo Crime Lab will be presenting "Leica RTC 360 scanner and Leica JetStream"


Blood Alcohol/Toxicology: 9 to 11:30 am at the Muir Lab (2nd Floor), 1960 Muir Road, Martinez, CA 94553 - This meeting will focus on blood alcohol. Nate Overlid of the Solano County Crime Lab will present method validation of GC/MS/FID for alcohol. We will also provide an update on the BARS program and a BYOC (bring your own case) session, time permitting. Please bring any difficult or interesting alcohol cases for group discussion. Cases can focus on analysis or interpretation or both!


Drugs: 1:15 to 3:30 pm at the Muir Lab (2nd Floor), 1960 Muir Road, Martinez, CA 94553 They will be discussing:

-Fentanyl: up rise in fentanyl cases seen in Bay Area labs, what forms are we seeing it in, how are labs taking precautions in handling these cases, what labs are reporting if 4-ANPP is present

-Increase in jail cases involving greeting cards and/or hand-written letters

-How are substances being weighed – static or dynamic

-Analysis of time-release tablets


DNA: 1:15 to 4 pm at the FOB Training Room (1st Floor), 1980 Muir Road, Martinez, CA 94553

- Isha Brown, Criminalist II from the Alameda County Sheriff Office Crime Lab  "Downstream DNA Testing Based on Quantification Results"

- Kevin Galzay and Jaime Baxter from DOJ Richmond Jan Bashinski Lab "STRmix prior to informed priors"

- Meredith Turnbough from Verogen "Enabling 'NOW' Generation Sequencing - CE vs. NGS head-to-head Comparison"


Firearms, Trace/Arson, QA, and DNA Tech Leads will not be meeting.


Locations, Locations, Locations:


Lunch and the DNA meeting will be at the FOB Training Room located at 1980 Muir Road, Martinez, CA.

Blood Alcohol and Drugs meetings will be at the Muir Lab located at 1960 Muir Road, Martinez, CA.

CSI meeting will be at the Summit Lab at 2530 Arnold Drive, Suite 200, Martinez, CA. 


Optional Lunch Talk (12-1 pm):
Luncheon Speaker/Topic:
"A Tale of Two Units" by Stephanie Souza and Nichole Tuscher from the Contra Costa County Crime Lab will be meeting at the FOB Training Room, 1980 Muir Road, Martinez, CA 94553


Meal Cost:

Lunch will consists of pizza, salad, dessert, and drinks.


CAC Members: As a token of appreciation from the CAC, lunch will be provided at no cost for CAC members at this study group meeting. Please indicate if you would like to be included in the lunch to ensure an accurate head count.


Non-CAC Members: Lunch cost $10/person.


Note: Feel free to attend the lunch talk at no cost if you bring your own food.

Even if you are not purchasing a lunch, you MUST REGISTER if you plan on attending the lunch talk and/or study group meeting(s) to ensure yourself of a seat!
